Chinese provincial furniture exhibition
peabody essex museum, salem, ma
The museum exhibition is for the display of 17th - 19th century Chinese vernacular furniture. The furniture is presented and arranged in intimately scaled rooms that are evocative of the regional and domestic origins and original functions and settings. Rough, unfinished plaster and fiberboard were used to give the rooms a robust quality while translucent fabric scrims were used to create layers of space. These rooms were distributed through the gallery to create a dynamic visual and circulation sequence.
